Vietjet, along with group companies Galaxy Holdings and Galaxy Telecom, signed a strategic partnership with SpaceX’s Starlink on Thursday, 24 September 2026, to install free, high-speed in-flight Wi-Fi across an initial fleet of 120 aircraft. The number is expected to increase in the future, with additional aircraft planned to receive the same equipment. Once installed, the Starlink kits will provide passengers with free cabin Wi-Fi rather than a paid connectivity option.
The initial deployment covers 100 Airbus A321 and Boeing 737 narrow-body aircraft for short and medium-range flights, along with 20 Airbus A330 wide-body aircraft serving medium to long-range destinations. Starlink will provide connectivity across the globe, including over oceans and remote areas where in-flight internet has traditionally been expensive and difficult to provide.
The agreement represents a significant commitment to Starlink by a commercial airline compared to carriers that have begun with smaller deployments across only a handful of aircraft.
Free Cabin Wi-Fi Across 120 Aircraft
Thursday’s announcement establishes a partnership and fleet target rather than a specific go-live date. While the agreement represents a large commitment to Starlink connectivity, it remains unclear how long Vietjet’s installation process will take or when passengers will first be able to access the service.
With Starlink, time in the air no longer has to mean time offline. Vietjet passengers will be able to stay connected throughout their journey—whether working, staying entertained, or keeping in touch with family and friends. This reflects Vietjet’s longstanding commitment to innovation and our ambition to bring leading technologies closer to more people.
SpaceX’s Tim Hughes, senior vice president of Global Business and Government Affairs, connected the deployment to Starlink’s existing service in Vietnam, where the network already provides connectivity to homes and businesses.
The introduction of Starlink on Vietjet will build on the fast, reliable service already connecting homes and businesses on the ground in Vietnam.
We’re thrilled to deliver a connectivity experience to Vietjet and its customers, making every journey better, smoother and infinitely more enjoyable.
Vietjet Takes a Different Approach
The decision to install Starlink across 120 aircraft is a significantly larger deployment than the recent initial rollouts announced by Korean Air and Austrian Airlines.
Korean Air began its Starlink rollout with four aircraft targeting medium to long-range flights, while Austrian Airlines’ first scheduled Starlink flight used a single aircraft. Vietjet’s plan to equip 120 aircraft from the outset represents a broader fleet-wide commitment rather than a limited initial rollout.
The larger deployment could also make Starlink more consistently available to Vietjet passengers without requiring them to identify individual aircraft equipped with the service. However, the actual availability will depend on the pace of installations and the eventual aircraft rollout schedule.
