Korean Air will begin offering free Starlink cabin Wi-Fi on September 15, 2026, starting with four retrofitted aircraft. These four aircraft will include three Airbus A350-900s, as well as one Boeing 777-300ER.

The airline announced the upgrade on September 11 and says the four aircraft will primarily operate medium and long-haul routes to the Americas, Europe, and Southeast Asia, with occasional short-haul service hop in between.

For passengers, the biggest change is that Wi-Fi on Starlink-equipped aircraft will be free and will not require a membership. Korean Air says the connection is designed to support over-the-air streaming, video and music, messaging, web browsing, online gaming, file transfers, and cloud collaboration.

The rest of the fleet will continue using Korean Air’s existing paid in-flight Wi-Fi service for now, until Korean Air expands its rollout past this initial fleet.

How Passengers Connect

Connecting to Starlink is handled through a short portal process rather than a loyalty program login. Passengers simply put their device in airplane mode, connect to wifi.koreanair.com, and open the Korean Air Wi-Fi portal.

From there, they enter the name and seat number shown on their boarding pass and watch an advertisement before gaining access. No separate membership is required.

Korean Air will continue to restrict internet-based voice and video calls, along with SNS live streaming and other real-time broadcasts. Security-sensitive or illegal websites may also be blocked, in line with the Korean Air fair use policies.

Four Jets Now, Most of the Fleet by End-2027

The initial rollout is limited to four aircraft, but Korean Air plans to expand free Starlink Wi-Fi across most of its operating fleet by the end of 2027. The airline says it will continue retrofits as quickly as possible to make the service available to more passengers.

Korean Air describes the rollout as the first Starlink cabin Wi-Fi deployment by a full-service carrier in East Asia, and likely one of many to follow over the coming months and years as demand for high-speed connectivity in the air grows.
