Starlink is giving new and existing customers on the Hawaiian island of Kauai free service through October 11, 2026, following Hurricane Lowell. Active customers will receive the credit automatically, while customers with cancelled service can reactivate their Starlink using the same credit.
The company announced the offer on September 10 and outlined the process in its Help Center article, Support for Kauai. Starlink often provides disaster-response support following emergencies to both customers and emergency responders in the area.
These immediate actions can help to bring data, voice, and video communications to people who otherwise would be unable to communicate with family elsewhere, and to ensure business continuity for government organizations in the process of conducting rescue.
Who Gets Free Service and How
Starlink says active customers on Kauai will automatically receive free service through October 11, beginning immediately. In addition, customers on the island with cancelled service can also receive a credit to reactivate their accounts and connect during the same period, with no re-connection penalty.
New customers however, will have one additional step. After purchasing or receiving a Starlink dish and setting up their account, they must use the Starlink App or website to contact support and request that free emergency service be applied to their account.
In addition, SpaceX has confirmed that if a Starlink kit was damaged during the storm, customers can contact support to request a free replacement as soon as it can be shipped.
Starlink’s Help Center does not provide a dollar value for the credit or specify which individual plan types are covered, but it does seem to cover unlimited high-speed use, including roaming, for the duration of emergency recovery.
Kits With Emergency Orgs
Starlink says its teams coordinated with response authorities before landfall, with more than 200 Starlink kits deployed to emergency response organizations. The company has not published a list of the agencies that received the kits, but the kits are already in first responder hands and actively in use respond to emergencies.
Hurricane Lowell passed west of Kauai and Niʻihau, but the storm’s impact prompted Starlink’s temporary service offer for customers on Kauai.
