Grok 4.7, the next major build that powers the AI running behind X, Grok Build, Grok Bot, and Tesla’s in-vehicle voice assistant, is supposed to come within the next week.
Based on comments on X from Elon Musk just a few days ago, the next flagship update was 10 days away, just a few days ago. Based on that, we expect to see the launch this upcoming week.
The response from Musk came as a follow-up to Shopify chief executive Tobi Lütke, who called the current version of Grok 4.6 as incredible. While the reply doesn’t give us a firm date, it does give a rough timeline of what to expect.
Grok 4.6 Stays For Now
Just like with previous major Grok releases, Grok 4.6 will remain an accessible model for the time being, for those working from platforms that can route to particular models. That means users on Cursor, Grok Build, the xAI API, GitHub Copilot, Amazon Bedrock, or Microsoft Azure Foundry can continue to use the same model without needing to change.
However, Grok 4.7 will eventually supplant Grok 4.6 on the web, likely over a few weeks as the xAI team transitions their hardware from one build to another. Premium and Premium+ subscribers on X, as well as subscribers to Cursor and xAI will receive access first, with additional access to follow for other users.
What Grok 4.7 Brings to the Table
Grok 4.7 is supposed to bring a 40% increase in parameters, pushing from Grok 4.6’s 1.5 trillion to 2.1 trillion. That is a significant jump in total parameter count, which will make a significant difference for those using Grok in reasoning capacities.
In particular, any task that requires the model to think, code, or execute a task will generally see improvements. While it may not be a par-to-par 40% leap, it will still be another step forward. Grok 4.6 moved Grok from lagging in the AI field to being on par with other frontier models.
We expect that 4.7 will bring Grok closer, if not even further than where Anthropic’s Claude Mythos and OpenAI’s Codex Astra are with their most recent set of releases.
For those running newer capabilities like Grok Bot or Grok Build, that means a big capability leap in the backend models that power your day-to-day work and tasks. With Grok Bot adoption growing fairly rapidly, making it even smarter and more capable will likely see even more users adopt it.
