Starlink has started emailing a new Personal Maritime plan to select small boat owners who spend extended periods on the water. The $185 monthly plan appears to target recreational boaters affected by the 30-day international travel limit recently added to Roam plans. Ocean Mode remains available for $6 per GB, making it impractical for customers who spend long periods offshore.
Starlink is testing the plan with select eligible customers today, but it is not a public option for selection at this time if you haven’t received an email. It does not show up on Starlink’s service plans page, or the commercial maritime page.
$185, Without the 30-day Clock
The Personal Maritime plan costs $185 per month and includes unlimited data in territorial waters worldwide. For small boat owners spending weeks or months travelling between coastlines, the plan removes the need to return to their home country after 30 days.
Unlike Roam plans with Ocean Mode, Personal Maritime does not permit land use. Starlink describes the plan as intended for personal vessels that remain on the water for extended periods. The company says the 30-day international travel restriction does not apply, except in rare cases where local regulations require it.
Unlimited Near shore, Metered Offshore
Within territorial waters, the $185 monthly plan provides unlimited data. Beyond 12 nautical miles, customers are directed to Ocean Mode at $6 per GB. This creates a clear split between the two services. Coastal usage is covered by the monthly plan, while extended offshore use is charged by the gigabyte.
Starlink already offers commercial Maritime service for larger vessels and operators. Personal Maritime appears to bring a similar approach to smaller personal boats, particularly owners who regularly cross international waters.
For those customers, the offer is straightforward: $185 per month for unlimited use in territorial waters, Ocean Mode beyond 12 nautical miles, and no 30-day international travel reset except where local regulations require one.
For now, Personal Maritime remains a limited test rather than a publicly available Starlink plan. If Starlink expands the offering, it could provide a more practical option for recreational boat owners who spend months on the water.
