Starlink has officially launched the next-generation Router 4, which it calls its best-performing router yet.
The Tech Specs
The new unit uses a brand-new Wi-Fi 7 chipset, bringing the latest generation of the standard, alongside the highest speeds, to Starlink customers, along with a larger coverage area, and a dual-PoE (PoE+) port to power your Dish.
In addition, the new chipset offers coverage for areas of up to 3,500 square feet, and boasts faster client connections and handshakes, with a maximum cap of 510 simultaneous devices. It sports new tri-band radios for better mesh performance as well, if you decide to purchase multiple, with 4×4 (2.4 GHz) and 4×5 (5 GHz), MU-MIMO, OFDMA and WPA2 and WPA3 security baked in.
Router 4 comes with two Ethernet ports, an LED status light, a factory reset button, and water-resistant port covers to ensure it can operate safely if a port isn’t occupied by a cable and it is exposed to water (IP56 water resistant). Powering Router 4 will also power the new Standard 5 Dish over PoE+, which means you don’t need a second line or a conduit running between your actual Starlink Dish and the Router anymore.

Should You Upgrade?
If you need more range or want higher speeds across your network in general, Router 4 is the upgrade path Starlink is documenting: Wi-Fi 7, more coverage, and a higher device cap than Router 3 or Router Mini. That matters most if Wi-Fi is the bottleneck in the house, not the satellite link.
If you are happy with coverage and already run third-party gear, you can stay put or buy a high-quality Wi-Fi 7 mesh system from Ubiquiti or Eero at nearly the same price once Router 4 hits the shop. Starlink has not published a retail price yet, so that comparison waits on the store listing.
Coming to the Shop Soon
SpaceX hasn’t listed the Router 4 in the Starlink shop quite yet, and has not published official pricing either. However, FCC authorization for model UTR-261 / R261, which should be Router 4, was confirmed on 13 August 2026, meaning that its just a short matter of time until it actually begins selling.
Until a shop SKU and ship date appear, the useful next step is the official docs: the Router 4 setup guide and the compare page. While some specs were able to be pulled from these pages, they are now 404ing at the time of editing, meaning that SpaceX is still finalizing the last few details ahead of the store launch.
